Iggy Azalea vehemently disagrees with Cardi B.

It seems like the leading ladies in rap are always engaged in a war of words. During a chat on Tidal’s Rap Radar podcast to promote her new Netflix show, Rhythm + Flow, Cardi B said she feels like her rise to superstardom shifted the industry paradigm, making it possible for more than one female rapper at a time to be successful.

“I feel like, after me, I’ll say that it’s kinda easier for a lot of these female artists. Like before me, there was no female rapper that was signed to a label, well, you know the ones that had already been established. Nobody was signing them,” Cardi said. “And now, everybody’s just signing them if you could rap and you got a couple of followers because nobody want to miss the opportunity. Like, a lot of labels missed the opportunity with me because I went to a couple of motherf**kers and they said, ‘No, no, no, no.’”

T.I., who recently called Iggy Azalea his biggest blunder in music, agreed.

“I think she kind of kicked the doors down with being personable. Most women when they came out were extremely mysterious, you hardly heard them talk… You heard them in interviews but never really speaking in a discussion. You feel like you get more a sense of [Cardi’s] personality when she presented herself.”

Nicki Minaj fans chimed in on Twitter, pointing out that Nicki’s success was more of a catalyst than Cardi’s. Cardi took to Twitter to clarify what she meant.

“Ya comprehension skills must be on slow cause I never discredit nobody,” she replied. “Theres been female rappers b4 I was born it died out due to hope and it got revive back in 08 & the music industry made it a stigma like there could only be 1 & now there’s plenty striving.”

In a now-deleted Tweet, a Nicki fan chimed in and said, “*****, you tried it!” Iggy Azalea liked that Tweet then unfollowed Cardi.

“I’m Lying ? So you tell me what rappers was giving features to female rappers? What label was pushing a female rapper? What tv music show was inviting female rappers,” Cardi said. ‘Only 2 female rappers for years and one ain’t last to long ……now you tell me! I wanna see something?”

She added: “I didn’t say I pave the way for female rappers but I deff gave the hood and women hope.Nikkas wasn’t collabing with females rappers.Labels where signing female rappers and putting them in a shelf and not focusing on them. Not giving them proper attention .”

Do YOU think Cardi helped open the door for other female rappers to be successful at the same time, or is Iggy justified in feeling turned off? Let us know what you think in the comments.

  1. Wtf is this nonesense… I’m an international fan so I have a strong say here. Why? Because if I didn’t hear about a rapper (or any other artist in general for that matter), then their cultural impact isn’t/wasn’t that strong. I was born in 1985, and I know Missy (QUEEN), somehow heard about Lil Kim (because of Lady Marmalade really), then the fantastic Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes from TLC, maybe Eve, and then there was like a void and then BAM! NICKI MF MINAJ. And right after IGGY. And then Cardi. Cardi is amazing, but again WTF IS SHE TALKING ABOUT.

  2. Aside from Lil Kim and Eve
Missy Elliot, who got an award recently
M.I.A. who always brought up social and political matters
Some of them even cooler than Nicky and Cardi

  3. Cardi B we love you and you are doing a great job as one of the top females artist out right now, but there has before you been females artist that has blazed the chats at the same time and there were no competition between them… yeah as time went on and unfortunate situations happened or even as new era of music and the coming of ages changed. You female rappers today make everything a competition including Nicki Minaj you guys act like you cant share the spot light… there was Missy, Lil Kim, The Brat, Foxy Brown, Remy Ma, Queen Latifah, Eve, and a lot of other female rappers even after them and they also did music with male and female rappers featured on other albums… Iggy, you are a very talented women and your career didnt go so well but its not over…. get back in there make a lie out of the nay sayers go hard…

    1. Im all for women empowerment, I believe more than one women can share the spotlight too much jealousy and envy amongst themselves… you women should get together and start your own label and help other female artist coming out, instead of trying to be the best at selling ***, cuz I see alot of that in the music today.. you don’t have to be half naked to sell lyrics.. but alot of that has something to do with how us as women feel we need to do to get our music out there.. but this is just my option Cardi B
