  1. Update: It appears Trump is banning the app in the very near future. He issued an executive order banning TikTok from the United States unless its sold by its Chinese-owned parent company within the next 45 days. Microsoft says it's in talks to buy it. Trump's order alleges TikTok "automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users," such as location data and browsing and search histories, which "threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans' personal and proprietary information -- potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage," CNN reports. TikTok says this "sets dangerous precedent" undermining "global businesses' trust in the United States" and vowed to pursue all "remedies available," including legal action. "We are shocked by the recent Executive Order, which was issued without any due process," the company said. "For nearly a year, we have sought to engage with the US government in good faith to provide a constructive solution to the concerns that have been expressed. What we encountered instead was that the Administration paid no attention to facts, dictated terms of an agreement without going through standard legal processes, and tried to insert itself into negotiations between private businesses." Earlier: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a Fox News interview on Monday that the U.S. is “certainly looking at” restricting TikTok and other Chinese social media apps, reviving national security and privacy concerns about China's tech giants, and stoking one front in the Trump administration's trade war with Beijing. Pompeo said the administration has “worked on this issue for a very long time,” adding that Americans should only download the popular video-sharing app “if you want your private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.” - Forbes Related:
  2. TikTok users, beware. A Redditor reverse-engineered the TikTok app and claims they figured out how the app works. They write: TikTok is a data collection service that is thinly-veiled as a social network. If there is an API to get information on you, your contacts, or your device... well, they're using it. Phone hardware (cpu type, number of course, hardware ids, screen dimensions, dpi, memory usage, disk space, etc) Other apps you have installed (I've even seen some I've deleted show up in their analytics payload - maybe using as cached value?) Everything network-related (ip, local ip, router mac, your mac, wifi access point name) Whether or not you're rooted/jailbroken Some variants of the app had GPS pinging enabled at the time, roughly once every 30 seconds - this is enabled by default if you ever location-tag a post IIRC They set up a local proxy server on your device for "transcoding media", but that can be abused very easily as it has zero authentication They add: " They have several different protections in place to prevent you from reversing or debugging the app as well. App behavior changes slightly if they know you're trying to figure out what they're doing. There's also a few snippets of code on the Android version that allows for the downloading of a remote zip file, unzipping it, and executing said binary. There is zero reason a mobile app would need this functionality legitimately." You can read their thread in-full on Reddit. It's worth mentioning India just banned TikTok and 58 other Chinese-produced apps because of issues with data mining. Social media giants stealing your information we been knew.
  3. And you can’t change my opinion
  4. Oh boy Trump is seriously going to be pissed offf bout this https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8443751/American-teens-sabotaged-Trumps-Tulsa-rally-reserving-tickets-hundreds.html
  5. From telling us that Harry potter is overrated, telling us to ditch wine and coffee and do a line of a can of Cola, to basically telling us that our obsession with vanity issues are stupid. Tik Tok is the first social media platform for Generation Z. It's so obvious.
  6. Ariana Grande dragged TikTok users attempting to impersonate her by wearing fake tanner, an oversized hoodie and ponytail. She said it's degrading. "Omg can this please also double as your impression of the pony tail TikTok girls who think doing the cat valentine voice and that wearing wingeed eyeliner and a sweatshirt is doing a good impersonation of me," she wrote, responding to actor Jordan Firstman's Instagram Story. "Cause this really how it feels. 'Degrading it's entire value' I screamed." The cat voice refers to the character she played, Cat Valentine, on the Nickelodeon TV series Victorious and its spin-off Sam & Cat. I mean... She addressed this last year even. "I just wonder whyyyy the cat voice / dialogue," she Tweeted last November. "I am sure she is the sweetest sweet sweetheart forreal !! But it's definitely bizarre seeing people blend the two worlds lmao." One of the most-famous impersonators, a 14-year-old girl named Paige Niemann, didn't take Ari's dig lightly. "I'm used to Ariana shading me, so it's whatever," Niemann responded. "I'm just here to entertain people. It's not how I am in real life. It's kind of why I'm not a fan of her any more, honestly." I feel like it's probably all fun and games until it's not. But also, Ariana's pretty iconic - which is why the impressions even exist. Let's celebrate that. Paige: Ariana:
  7. If I'm Dancing - if they added a bit more thump to it and released it with an amazing video Man on the Moon - Fixed whatever is missing production or composition wise (I can't put my finger on it) and you have a pop gem. Alien - if it was fixed production wise and Brit sang it all..video would be something trippy + space-dreamy. Delete Perfume + Pretty Girls. How I Roll - classic bloodshy & avant + britney chemistry. With a Joseph Kahn directed video. Unusual You - mature and a simply unique ballad track off a mainly basic album. Freakshow + Toy Soldier - both ahead of their time..short but lit and could have had hot videos too. Breathe On Me - don't even know why this wasn't released on so many levels. Cinderella + What it's Like to be Me - I remember this type of pop music became uncool during this era of hers, but still. They should have been confident and released them. Plus that's when they put so much effort in her videos! What U See (Is Wut U Get) - oopsney was unstoppable. Love that album.
