So the 2003 VMAS will always be overshadowed by "the Kiss", But Generation Z and mid 90s Millennials have said what we need to admit, You have two killer entertainers In Madonna and Britney in her prime, Plus xtina also at the height of her career all we got was a high school talent show at best, If it wasn't for the infamous kiss, it would have been trashed as we have seen better performances from them on the same award show. Madonna delivered in 1989 with Express yourself and 90 with Vogue even her 1998 Ray of light performance was much better than this, same with her 2005 EMAS hung up. Same with Britney, Xtina delivered a better performance with fighter on the sane award show. But overall it's very lackluster we over hyped it to death, it has aged very horribly in the last 17 years. Truth hurts, sometimes
