  1. A MASTERPIECE. Ariana Grande has unveiled the visual for "God Is A Woman." [adinserter block="1"] The pop star premiered the track at midnight on Friday (read about that here), and swiftly followed up with a video. I mean, A MASTERPIECE. In the clip, Ariana is larger than life. No, really. She hula hoops with an entire galaxy and straddles the earth. I'm pretty sure she even fingers a hurricane. When will your favs?   [adinserter block="2"]   It's also got a cameo from Madonna, actual Goddess. She imparts some wise words. Take notes, fam. "God Is A Woman" is definitely my favorite video from Ariana yet.   [adinserter block="3"]   [adinserter block="4"] Thoughts? Leave a comment below! 2. Main Pop Girl Alert! Sabrina Carpenter is on the hunt in her new video for "Almost Love."   [adinserter block="1"]   Main Pop Girl Alert! Sabrina just unleashed A VISUAL for her new song, "Almost Love," the first release off the singer's forthcoming album, Singular (out this winter). In the clip, Sabrina seduces a man, then lures him in for a kiss, but unfortunately for the unsuspecting pretty boy... that brief romantic getaway ends up being his demise. Her smooch transforms him into stone. And in a dark turn of events she keeps his head (and others like him) as a trophy. I like her style.   [adinserter block="2"]   "A lot of the fans that have grown with me since my first album, or even if they knew me from my second album, or if they’re just starting to hear me on this album… they’re growing with me," Carpenter told BreatheHeavy in our interview with her last month. "There’s a lot of people on this album that I’m hoping can see themselves. [When I listened to this album], it’s made me feel a lot more confident and carefree in a lot of ways. I hope people can listen to this and feel that weight off their shoulders. I hope it takes them to another place. That’s my favorite thing about music – it can take me out of the world."   [adinserter block="3"]   Read our interview with Sabrina here. 3. Happy New Music Friday: July 13, 2018 (if you're reading this on a Saturday/Sunday get your life). Happy New Music Friday: July 13, 2018 (if you're reading this on a Saturday/Sunday get your life).   [adinserter block="1"]   Hi fam. Welcome to BreatheHeavy's third New Music Friday post courtesy of Spotify (low-key shocked I've kept this going for three weeks now go me). Every Friday, I'll share with you Spotify's updated playlist of the most-recently released songs. You call it lazy, I call it efficient. It's not possible to fill you in on the ENDLESS stream of songs that spill onto the Internet every Friday (I just don't want to), but this means you are quite possibly missing out on some very good new tunes, and that's not the tea.   [adinserter block="1"]   MØ & Diplo – "Sun In Our Eyes" MØ and Diplo are a dream team. Everything they create is music magic (fight me). Their latest release is no exception. On "Sun In Our Eyes," the Danish singer's raspy vocals melt over Diplo's summery production. "Sun" is the first release off MØ's forthcoming sophomore album, Forever Neverland, due out on October 19th.   [adinserter block="3"]     Black Eyed Peas – "Get It" It doesn't feature Fergie. #Woke Tinashe – "Like I Used To" Tinashe's breakup with NBA star Ben Simmons is a bit of a mess. There are reports claiming T is following him and new girlfriend Kendall Jenner, so she decided to defend herself through song. "Like I Used To" is a mid-tempo breakup bop about lingering regrets. “This s--t too easy like a free-throw/ This s--t might blow up like some C4.” Tinashe knows her ex is dating a reality TV star whose family is notorious for planting stories. Nope, she's not falling for it.   [adinserter block="4"]   Mary J Blige – "Only Love" I never expected to hear Mary J Blige sing over disco-inspired pop production, but I'm glad this exists. “I’ve been in the studio working on new music and was excited to share a little bit with you all,” Mary wrote in an Instagram post. “I had a year of so many ups and downs and have come out the other side with a renewed spirit and a fresh perspective. I’m entering my next chapter with an open mind and heart.” Benny Blanco featuring Khalid & Halsey – “Eastside” Benny Blanco has crafted some seriously massive songs (Katy Perry's “Teenage Dream,” Britney's “Circus,” Rihanna's “Diamonds”), but the super-producer is setting his sights set on a solo career. Blanco tapped Khalid and Halsey for his laidback new tune, "Eastside" (it's worth mentioning Ed Sheeran co-wrote it and Cashmere Cat co-produced with Benny). The song details a sad romance. A.K.A. relatable to all Millennials. [adinserter block="5"] Allie X – “Not So Bad In LA” Allie X's new song is menacing pop at its finest. Over a brooding beat, the singer laments over L.A.'s lame life-style. “In a city that lives while its bright stars die / And you start to get old when you turn 25. Where else can you go when you’ve got that drive,” she sings over ominous production. Eventually, Allie decides L.A. isn't all that bad. Let's agree to disagree. Lil Kim – "Nasty One" An auto-tuned Lil Kim goes IN on new song "Nasty One," the first single off her forthcoming fifth studio album (out in November). It's a bop, but I wonder how it'll translate on stage. No matter – not going to affect my twerk game.   Honorable mentions include Norah Jones, Mac Miller, Childish Gambino, deadmau5 and All Saints. 4. Camila Cabello readies her next single! Camila Cabello readies her next single!   [adinserter block="1"]   It appears the "Havana" singer is quickly moving on from the Pharrell-assisted one-off release, "Sangria Wine," because CC's manager low-key confirmed the next release off her No. 1 self-titled. Camila's next single is the Skrillex-produced mid-tempo, "She Loves Control."   [adinserter block="2"]   This gets a thumbs up from me; "She Loves Control" is one of my favorites off the record and fits in quite nicely with my poolside playlist. Justice for "Into It." Listen below:   [adinserter block="3"]   Thoughts on "She Loves Control" as the next Camila release? Leave a comment below! 5. 'Queer Eye' star Jonathan Van Ness is criticizing Nicki Minaj for appearing in Harper's Bazaar Russia. 'Queer Eye' star Jonathan Van Ness (the one with the fierce long hair) is criticizing Nicki Minaj for appearing in Harper's Bazaar Russia.   [adinserter block="1"]   I think some times Nicki's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't, but this time I think JVN made some valid points. He's pointing out that Nicki, who has a large following of gay fans (dare I say the majority?), appears on a Russian magazine despite their inhumane treatment towards people in the LGBTQ community.   [adinserter block="2"]   "Russia has anti LGBTQIA propaganda laws, Chechnya supported by Russia tortures it’s LGBTQIA citizens, & w your LGBTQ+ fans you can’t even speak to that in this interview bc it’s illegal in Russia, what’s good @NICKIMINAJ , this should’ve been a hard pass," he wrote on Twitter. Fans were quick to point out that other famous faces have appeared on Harper's Bazaar Russia as well. It made no difference.   [adinserter block="3"]   I agree with Netflix bestie. It comes off as tone deaf, and considering there are countless other magazines Nicki could have posed for... this was not the move. See what's good below:   Is Nicki Minaj's cover problematic? 6. "I'm solid." "I'm solid."   [adinserter block="1"]   Internet culture puts such an emphasis on No. 1s and where music charts. It's exhausting. Did you know Drake's new album Scorpion has SEVEN songs in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week? He snatched The Beatles' longstanding record (they had six). THE BEATLES. I mean his new record is phenomenal but Jesus Christ. And when an artist with legitimately great music doesn't even scratch the surface of the charts, we cast them aside. It's not right, and you know who's unbothered about it? Ariana Grande.   [adinserter block="2"]   Someone Tweeted her asking where her No. 1 song is (Ari has yet to top the Hot 100, but it's worth mentioning her first two albums debuted at the top and Dangerous Woman at No. 2), and she responded without f--ks. "i’m so blessed that this is even my life, i’d be out of my mind to ask for anything more," she said.   [adinserter block="3"]   "i’m so proud of my music & grateful for my gift. it’ll happen when it happens & if it doesn’t, I’m solid." Considering how polarizing Ariana is, it is a little surprising she hasn't landed a chart topper yet, but like I stated previously, does it matter?     [adinserter block="4"]   Thoughts on Ariana's response? 7. It appears Ariana Grande's Sweetener track "R.E.M." was previously recorded by Beyonce. It appears Ariana Grande's Sweetener track "R.E.M." was previously recorded by Beyonce.   [adinserter block="1"]   Ari is Elle magazine's latest cover girl. To promote the issue, she played a game called "Song Association." They say a word, and she's got 10 seconds to sing a line containing that word. When Elle said the word "dream," Ari sang a bit of her new song, "R.E.M." It goes, "Why you such a dream to me / Before you speak don’t walk / 'Cause I don't want to wake up."   [adinserter block="2"]   The song's production is obviously missing, but the melody sounded VERY familiar to the BeyHive. That's because Queen Bey previously recorded a song titled "Wake Up" with Pharrell. A 12-second snippet of Beyonce's version has existed on YouTube since last year (I'm going to refrain from posting it in case the copyright police are on the hunt, but a quick search for "Beyonce + wake up" on YouTube should pull something up). Since Beyonce never officially released it, Pharrell might've passed it onto Ari. He collaborated with her on several Sweetener songs.   [adinserter block="3"]   The Internet is calling him lazy, I'm calling it efficient. What should you take away from this post? Ariana recorded a Beyonce hand-me-down, and that's OK. Thoughts on Ariana possibly singing a recycled Beyonce track? Leave a comment below! 8. Miley Cyrus has deleted all of her photos off Instagram and blacked out her social media profiles. Miley Cyrus has deleted all of her photos off Instagram and blacked out her social media profiles.   [adinserter block="1"]   Very on trend of her! When Taylor Swift and Harry Styles readied their new eras, they literally did the same thing, so it's safe to assume Miley took a page out of their book and is readying new music. Over 7 billion likes and thousands of photos have evaporated off Cyrus' Instagram and her 70 million+ followers. Her profile pics on the Gram, as well as Twitter and Facebook (including her headers) have changed to the color black.   [adinserter block="2"]   Miley tapped Mark Ronson for new music. The super-producer recently shared a photo of them and said what they cooked up is one of the best songs he's ever created. Considering how many influential tracks Ronson has made, there's some real high expectations here. There's also a rumor Miley and Lady Gaga have a song together. Read more about that here. Get ready!   [adinserter block="3"]   See reactions from the Smilerz below:   Are YOU ready? Leave a comment below! And while you're at it... follow us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
  9. Justin Bieber's revival. Justin Bieber's revival. UPDATE: Bieber confirmed the news via Instagram. The caption is just cringe, so I'll just copy + paste it for you without my two cents. Congratulations to them though!   [adinserter block="1"]   "Was gonna wait a while to say anything but word travels fast, listen plain and simple Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you!" "So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindLY. I promise to lead our family with honor and integrity letting Jesus through his Holy Spirit guide us in everything we do and every decision we make. My heart is COMPLETELY and FULLY YOURS and I will ALWAYS put you first! You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn’t want to spend it with anybody else." "You make me so much better and we compliment eachother so well!! Can’t wait for the best season of life yet!. It’s funny because now with you everything seems to make sense! The thing I am most excited for is that my little brother and sister get to see another healthy stable marriage and look for the same!!! Gods timing really is literally perfect, we got engaged on the seventh day of the seventh month, the number seven is the number of spiritual perfection, it’s true GOOGLE IT! Isn’t that nuts?" "By the way I didn’t plan that, anyways My goodness does feel good to have our future secured! WERE GONNA VE BETTER AT 70 BABY HERE WE GO! “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains FAVOR from the Lord!” This is the year of favor!!!!"     Thoughts on Bieber getting engaged? 10. Sultry banger. Ariana Grande drops new Sweetener song, "God Is A Woman."   [adinserter block="1"]   The pop star surprised fans this week when she announced plans to release the track a week early. "God Is A Woman," which Ariana described as a "sexual female empowerment & how women are literally everything & the universe is inside of us," layers Ariana's angelic vocals to mimic a choir.   [adinserter block="2"]   It's also worth mentioning the anthemic, sultry banger is her grandmother's favorite song off the new record. Naughty Nona! The music video premieres at noon on Friday (check back for that). Listen to the Ilya-produced track below:   [adinserter block="3"]     [adinserter block="4"] Thoughts on "God Is A Woman?" Leave a comment below! 11. Y'all see this? I mean... I know we can't avoid Hurricane Ariana right now, but this might've slipped passed ya. Her fiancé, Pete Davidson, was doing standup at the Laugh Factory in LA recently and tried to crack a joke at how famous Ariana is, but it was pretty inappropriate. "Britney Spears didn't have a terrorist attack at her concert," he said. It caused a lot of controversy/backlash. So much so, that Ari commented on it today. What do ya think?
  12. Mariah Carey returns to Vegas in a very Mariah Carey kinda way. Mariah Carey returns to Vegas in a very Mariah Carey kinda way.   [adinserter block="1"]   The elusive chanteuse kicked off her latest residency, The Butterfly Returns, at The Colosseum inside Caesars Palace on Thursday (July 5), and it went off without a hitch! Almost...   [adinserter block="2"]   During a her performance of "Fantasy," Mimi nearly tumbled down, but fortunately her backup dancer boyfriend was there to save the day (or was it actually his fault? Hard to tell, irrelevant). She puts her mic down to catch herself, but miraculously the playback kept on. You may call that lip synching, I call it time traveling. Wassup, Carl Sagan? 17. After more than a decade, Ashlee Simpson finally readies new music. After more than a decade, Ashlee Simpson finally readies new music.   [adinserter block="1"]   Hello, my name is Jordan, and I'm responsible for this very misleading headline. Truth be told, Ashlee is putting out a new album in a few months, but the part I conveniently left out is that it's a joint album with her husband, Evan Ross (the youngest son of Diana Ross) and it won't sound like her past pop works. Now that I've come clean, let's celebrate?   [adinserter block="2"]   In a new interview with the New York Times, Ashlee describes the forthcoming LP as “conversations of love.” But in song form, I assume. “Growing up I always loved soul and R&B and India Arie and Lauryn Hill and all that, and I think like you’ll feel vibes of that,” she said. But don't stress, it's still very much ~Ashlee~. “I feel like my tone of my voice, you definitely know it’s me.” It's also worth mentioning Verdine White, the Grammy-winning bass player from Earth, Wind and Fire, will appear on a song titled "Ashlee & Evan."   [adinserter block="3"]   The couple are also not terrible concerned with how it performs on the charts. “I mean, everybody wants things to do well, but I think the good part about this is like, it’s all love,” Ross said. “What’s the worst thing that could happen?” “People don’t like it,” Ashlee responded. “You just gotta hope for the best,” Ross said. “Man, if they totally don’t like it, you’re like, damn, I must be boring.”   [adinserter block="4"]   Ashlee and Evan will also appear on a E! new reality show. Fingers crossed they... don't bore us. [adinserter block="5"]   Are YOU excited for Ashlee's (and Evan's) new album? Leave a comment below!
