On November 18, 2016, Britney Spears released the Slumber Party video featuring Tinashe, two days after the new version of the track was released on digital platforms. The music video was directed by Colin Tilley, a relatively new director that had already worked with people like Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.

The video was shot in October, and both Britney and Tinashe posted about it on social media. Various pictures from on set were shared, revealing the collaboration which wasn't originally on the album's tracklist.

In an interview for Extra with Mario Lopez, she talked about the video saying: "[...] we just did the video and it's kinda like a younger "Eyes Wide Shut" theme. So it's kind of a little risky, it's very ****, it's very moody, and it's, um, fun! It's fun, yeah."

When asked about Tinashe on an interview for MTV, Britney said: “Tinashe is so sweet. I just always see my fans talking about her online, and it just made so much sense to collaborate on this song. She was amazing, and would love to find another way to work together in the future!

On this videoshoot was where Britney Spears met actor Sam Asghari, who played the love interest in the video, and who would later become her boyfriend (and they're still together to this day). According to Sam, he didn't have to audition, instead, he got hand-picked by Britney after someone that was working on the production who was close to him, sent his pictures to the casting director. He had already appeared on Fifth Harmony's Work from Home video earlier that year.

The music video premiered on her YouTube channel. Originally, fans were happy because the video used a different track than that from the digital platforms. The version of the video didn't have Britney's high pitched vocals at the end of the song. However, the audio was later replaced to match the one from iTunes, Spotify, etc. but the original version can still be found in some websites.

The music video was well received by fans and critics alike, comparing it to her 2002 Boys video. For a while it was trending on YouTube, even above Shakira's Chantaje which premiered the same day, but eventually lost momentum. 4 years later, it still hasn't hit the 100M views mark.

To this day, Slumber Party is Britney's latest video, and ever since its release, this has been the longest period of time without a new Britney video in her entire career (4 years and counting). Previously the longest gap between videos had been Someday (I Will Understand) - Gimme More, but Slumber Party surpassed that in 2019 .

I know many of you would disagree with me, but in my humble opinion, the MV is absolutely

the video was great, to me it's just that Slumber Party wasn't the single the era needed at that moment, especially after Make Me...

Do You Wanna Come Over? was the obvious single, no matter what people say :donewithit_carpool_karaoke_britney_glory_hand_telling_talking_chatting_wave_waving: Other than that, Liar, Better, If I'm Dancing, Man on the Moon were other great options, but they really needed to release the most uptempo song of the record.

My favorite video honestly. This era ended quickly, but this video was a killer way to end it. I wish the track performed better and I am still salty we didn’t get a high budget Eyes Wide Shut mansion-esque performance at the AMAs that year. A completely missed opportunity.

slightly off topic, but I still urge fans to check out this incredible fan made project, which took heavy inspiration from this video:

But is it just me who find the video a little...scary? Or maybe weird is the better word?

Let me explain:

There are many things that makes the video weird or scary, I think that was the point but it’s too confusing...

- No Driver on the car where Britney is on the first part of the video

- That mansion, the fires, the guy at the entrance of the mansion...

- The ambiance of the party is a little weird, not an usual/normal party

- Fishes/Sea on windows of the mansion? Really? What’s the meaning?

- Thunderstorms on the pink room, where Britney wear the blue dress, what’s the meaning? Is it just for the visual?

A lot of questions/confusions on this music video, also the fact that some scenes were sometimes vulgar where some TV Music Channels can’t broadcast the video in all countries may be a big factor on the bad success of this single/video, they had to release an Alternative Version or a Director’s Cut/Censored Version. The lack of promotion is obviously the main reason too.

I think it’s just playing off the aesthetics of the masked party from Eyes Wide Shut. The whole scene in the movie is just so eerie. The music video imitated it very well

That’s why I don’t like much the video, too scary, it doesn’t fit Britney’s usual styles of videos, Pretty Girls was for me the last one where it fits very well her types of music videos (not saying that Britney should not start a new way of music videos). Visually, yes Slumber Party have great effects and colors, but I don’t like the storyline.

GOD she looked so good

The only thing that bothered (that I see as a big mistake) is the fact that back on 2016 y'all were hating on her lips so much that they ended up editing her mouth on the final cut, and It looks so fake and scary
