Following the release of Kelis’ last studio record, “Food,” is her new cookbook appropriately titled My Life on a Plate: Delicious Everyday Recipes & Sauces.
“My Life On A Plate is my first cookbook, and like the title says, it really is a reflection of my life through food,” Kelis said in a statement about the book out in September. “It includes my version of recipes I grew up eating and things I’ve picked up that have inspired me along the way. It’s an exploration of tastes and cultures, and my experience as a chef, musician, mother and wife. It’s a lifestyle, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.”
The collection of her favorite recipes, including pernil (Puerto Rican pork shoulder), arroz con gandules, shrimp alcapurias, Malay curry chicken, and Swedish meatballs, is inspired by her Puerto Rican heritage and learnings from Le Cordon Bleu, which “gave [her] the confidence to call herself a chef and to write her first cookbook.”
