US beauty manufacturer Elizabeth Arden Inc saw net income jump to $4.8m during the first quarter, ended September 30, from $1.3m last year. The increase reflects a higher proportion of net sales of owned and licensed brands, as well as warehouse consolidation, Arden said in a statement. Net sales for the quarter were up 6.6% to $212.2m. Sales were driven by the launch of Britney Spears’s Curious fragrance in US department stores, which has “exceeded both retailer and industry expectations. It is currently the number-one ranked fragrance in US department stores,” according to Elizabeth Arden Inc chairman and ceo Scott Beattie. Sales were also pushed by the performance of Elizabeth Arden Provocative Woman, which launched in the US in spring and internationally in September. Looking ahead, Elizabeth Arden foresees net sales for the next quarter to grow between 8% and 10% and expects to reach full-year sales of between $900m and $910m. Britney Spears’s Curious will be rolled out internationally and to travel retail during Q3.thanks
