Demi Lovato, Carly Rae Jepsen, Camila Cabello And A Dozen Other Pop Stars Recorded A Demo Of Zedd & Maren Morris’ “The Middle”

Zedd and Maren Morris ultimately met in the middle.

Morris should feel pretty damn good about her Zedd-assisted EDM bop “The Middle.”

Before the Nashville-based country singer landed the feature, the track, which hit at No. 5 on the Hot 100 and No. 1 at pop radio, had some serious powerhouse pop talent behind it.

The creation process was more than a year in the making. EDM super-producer Zedd created the track with production duo/brothers Grey and involved input from duo Monsters & Strangerz and Australian songwriter Sarah Aaron.

Oh yeah, and a dozen other pop stars laid down vocals for it, including Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello, Anne-Marie, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tove Lo, Bishop Briggs, Bebe Rexha, Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony, Daya and Elle King, Variety reports.

Variety also has a month-by-month play of the song’s journey before eventually falling into Morris’ lap. For instance, it was originally meant to kick off Demi’s era – but she ultimately decided to release “Sorry Not Sorry” instead.

Camila also had plans to drop it, but decided to hold off two weeks before its release because she didn’t want it overshadowing her No. 1 hit “Havana.”

Anne-Marie’s version was booted eventually as well because Zedd didn’t want the track to go up against her other song with rival Marshmello (“Friends”).

It just goes to show how much work goes on behind-the-scenes before a song makes its way onto the digital waves. This also means there are versions with Demi, Carly Rae, Camila, Tove Lo etc. out there, and I’m going to need those to hit Music Mafia any time now.
