If you thought Clean Bandit’s Demi Lovato-assisted new banger was about a breakup, think again. “Solo” is a party-friendly, dance-floor ready anthem that appears to connect with all the wallowing lonely hearts out there (A.K.A. me), but it’s a clever disguise for a bop that’ll tug at more than just your heartstrings. *Insert smirking, eggplant emojis here.*

Let’s take a good… hard look at the lyrics, shall we?

“Since you’ve been gone / I’ve been dancing on my own,” Demi croons over a pulsating beat and warm, tropical-tinged production. “There’s boys up in my zone / But they can’t turn me on / ‘Cause baby you’re the only one I’m coming for / I can’t take no more.”

Clearly, she’s singing to herself. Am I right?

Elsewhere, she purrs: “I wanna f-woop woop woop, but I’m broken hearted / Cr-cr-cry but I like to party / T-t-touch but I got nobody / Here on my own.”

Look, you can interpret “Solo” however you want, but the world needs an EDMasturbation anthem, and I think Clean Bandit and Demi just gifted us with one.
