Britney Spears has re-invented herself again – this time following in the footsteps of Janet Jackson.

I’m the first UK journalist to hear Brit’s version of the Bobby Brown tune My Prerogative and it’s a belter. Production team Bloodshy & Avant waved their magic on Toxic. But this goes down a completely different road, picking up old school Janet vibes coupled with Asian beats and lacing synths.

Britney’s trademark voice purrs forcefully: “They say I’m crazy. I really don’t care. That’s my prerogative. They say I’m nasty. But I don’t give a damn. Getting boys is how I live…”

Then she continues through to the bolshie Backstreet Boys-esque chorus: “Everybody’s talking all this stuff about me. Why don’t they just let me life? Tell me why. I don’t need permission. Make my own decisions. That’s my preorgative.”

I was invited to Jive Records’ London HQ to get a spin of the highly anticipated record before anyone else. Britney’s spokesperson told me: “The track is fantastic and it’s the perfect tune for Britney to cover. It will be massive. It’s got all the right ingredients to become a classic.” Thanks affiliate
