The YouTube star says knowing she made a difference in someone’s life is a “huge deal.”
After millions of votes, Christina Grimmie won the 2015 Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star competition.
During an interview at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas on Friday (Sep. 18), Grimmie acknowledged her performance at the iHeartRadio music festival is somewhat similar to her time as a contestant on Season 6 of The Voice (she placed third) because the magnitude of the show, but says the difference here is the “huge live audience” and the million stars backstage.
Though she’s a newbie in the music biz, the 21-year-old shares her wisdom into what success means as a budding artist in-part thanks to her massive online presence.
“Success in music is people liking your music, buying your music, going to your shows and reaching people as well,” she tells BreatheHeavy.
“That’s the main that I try to do, especially through YouTube.” Grimmie’s referring to her 3 million subscribers on the streaming giant with nearly 350 million views.
She adds, “If one person wrote me a letter or something that meant something to them… knowing that you did something in someone’s life. To me that’s a huge deal.”
“And social media? Thank the lord for it.”
