“We will always be one.”

Céline Dion returned to the stage last night for the first time since her husband René Angélil passed away from throat cancer in January.

Céline’s first show back at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which started with a video tribute to René, served as a touching tribute to her beloved husband. The understandably emotional singer, who lost her brother to cancer just 2 days after the death of her husband, was greeted by thunderous applause as she walked on stage and performed a string of her greatest hits, all in honour of René. Starting with “With One More Look at You”, then launching into some of her most heart-wrenching ballads, including “Where Does My Heart Beat Now” and “Because You Loved Me”, she sang beautifully and honoured René as only she can.

In between songs, Céline shared a few touching words about her husband. She spoke of her deep connection with René, saying: “We will always be one” and revealed that she still feels his presence in her life: “It is pretty amazing that since he’s… physically no longer with me, he is even more present.”

Speaking in French, she thanked the crowd for their support and said: “I will never live without René. He will always be with me.”

The first 20 minutes of the show were broadcast via livestream. You can watch her moving tribute below:
