It was a big night for Camila Cabello.
Not only was the singer there to kick off the awards ceremony with a chill performance of “Havana,” but Billboard honored her as their 2017 breakthrough artist.
Camila dedicated the accolade to her mom. “The only reason I’m standing on this stage and on this soil in this country is because of one woman, my mom… thank you to the woman of life,” she said. She says her mom tells her “the only way to live life is to live it intensely” and concluded by saying, “I have the most incredible example of what it means to be a woman… this is for my mom.”
In the “Havana” performance, Camila’s vocals soared through the auditorium, backed by a trio of a guitarist, cajon and keys.
The song peaked at No. 2 in the U.S. and took the top spot in the U.K. for three weeks. Hopefully this version gives the original more staying power.
