Britney's "Brightest Morning Star" Gets An Acoustic Treatment

An unofficial acoustic remix of Britney Spears’ “Brightest Morning Star” takes us to church.

Remix connoisseurs Nick* & Country Club Martini Crew got their hands on the original working files of Britney’s “Brightest Morning Star” off her last album, “Britney Jean,” and re-worked the song into a laid-back, guitar filled tune Sundayney would approve of.

The new instrumentation gives the Dr. Luke-produced, Sia-written tune an entirely new vibe, a welcome change from the original. And while Brit’s vocals sound fresh on the take, it’s hard to ignore ghost singer Myah Marie’s presence, but we’ve accepted her hush hush role on Britney’s eighth studio album and continue pretending it’s entirely Britney.

“She wanted to write a kind of gospel song that wasn’t ramming it down your throat,” Sia told Rolling Stone in 2013 of the song. “She came in with the title ‘Brightest Morning Star’ and told me that’s how Jesus found his way.” Dr. Luke thought it was “kinda about her kids.”

Nick* tells of the mix:

This was one of the first songs CCMC and I wanted to attempt to remix from Britney Jean. We knew it had to be acoustic — the whole lullaby vibe was perfect. I called up my friend Louie and we did 3 or 4 guitar takes straight through (we usually do more and in pieces, but they were pretty solid). CCMC and I had so many vocal layers to work, but kept with the less is more motto. It rarely fails. He got it all arranged and we went back and forth on what would give the best flow for a real live feel and there it was. I hope we can leave Britney Jean behind us now [laughs].
