The hit-maker behind some of music’s biggest songs ever opens up about the princess of pop.

Max Martin rarely gives interviews. Not because he’s shy, but because he’s seen how superstardom can uproot someone’s stability. He decided anyway to chat with The Guardian to promote & Juliet, a musical featuring 30 huge songs he’s composed, including a handful of Britney Spears songs, like “Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman,” “Overprotected” and “Stronger,” as well as Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” among many others.

During his interview, Martin comments on Britney, and describes her level of fame as something unimaginable and quite frankly… terrifying.

“She’s a genius,” he said in regards to working with artists who aren’t songwriters “per se.”

“So much had happened to her in that [early period] and she had to grow up quickly. We had conversations with her about what she wanted to do and what she wanted to say.”

Martin also has insight on what fame can do to someone. He makes it clear he’s not referring to Britney specifically, but she is a prime example of how stardom can turn your life upside down.

“I think we all should be grateful [to the artists],” he says. “It’s easy for us to say that they become these rich, spoilt divas – and I’m not talking about Britney specifically, just in general – but we forget that these artists go out into the world and work and tour and become super-famous for our enjoyment. And then we watch their lives fall apart in front of our eyes for doing something amazing.”

He added: “I’m so thankful that someone actually still wants that job. I’ve seen it many many times, what fame does. And it goes back to why I don’t do interviews. Especially now with social media: our lives are on display all the time and when you’re famous it’s on a whole other level. We’re not made to be that famous, it’s not normal. It’s not in our DNA.”

    1. Martin is a bloated, scumbag, alcoholic. If he is calling you a genius he is telling the handlers he wants out now cause **** is falling apart and he is out of material now that they can’t steal anymore **** from girl he stole the notebook from. May he rot in hell with Lukasz.

  1. I honestly believe she’s amazing as an artist but the truth is she’s always way too humble to capitalize on all the musical talent she has and that has backfired to the point that the general public believes she’s a puppet when in fact she writes lots of her lyrics, plays instruments and is a great artist overall.

    1. They ****** HER over! The gave her stolen lyrics and used her Portfolio to hide money! They stuck her in a residency! The legal version of a ******* mental institution where they can drug her up and keep an eye on her at will. She has a freaking handler!
