Plus help 50 Cent an extra buck to pay his legal fees and watch Ceelo Green’s new interactive lyric video.
Because we were too busy chatting with dumblonde and slowly nodding ‘yes’ to Ariana Grande’s America-loving announcement, we didn’t get to write up everything we wanted to in music today (July 17). So, here ya go…
■ One Direction superfan, Anna Todd (seen above), created an ******, one-million word fan-fiction series titled After that’s earned her over half a million dollars thanks to a lucrative publishing deal. Todd’s scene in chapter 82 where Harry Styles climaxes, “promises of forever are made as he tenses and gently falls onto me,” saw over a million readers.
“I never thought I could be an author. I’ve already made more money than I ever dreamed of making in my entire life. People spend 10 years trying to get a book published, they have degrees, they’re a hell of a lot smarter than me, and they may have way better grammar than me, but I used the Internet, and that’s what set me apart.” [Billboard]
■ Calvin Harris tells KISS FM dating Taylor Swift is “interesting,” because…
“Obviously there’s different things written about it every day and even if we don’t do anything sort of publicly for a while, someone will make something up, and there will be some sort of story…It gets more and more ridiculous! There’s a whole bunch of times when we’ve been hanging out and nobody’s caught it,” he went on. “You know, it’s not like every single time we go out we get a photograph taken of us. That’s not the case. But for me, though, it could be a lot worse and I’d still be like insanely happy with her so I’m good with it.”
■ Fifth Harmony sang “Dame Esta Noche,” the Spanish version of their hit single “Worth It,” at Univision’s Premios Juventud. The only time you can hear bandmate Lauren Jauregui in the song is during the chorus, a point of contention amongst the Harmonizers. To make up for it, Jauregui sang the second bridge to close out the song at the recent performance. [MTV]
■ Cee Lo Green premiered a dizzying but creative interactive lyric video for his new song “Robin Williams” inspired by Google. If you want to avoid a headache, listen to the static version here:
■ Steve Aoki premiered his music video for “Neon Future” featuring Luke Steele.
■ Pitbull warns Donald Trump to beware of prison escapee El Chapo [CNN]:
“For all of the Latinos out there, keep your heads up, and Trump, watch out for El Chapo dude. I want him to know I’m not a politician. I’m a musician. I’m a Latino first. I support our people.”
■ And finally… HELP! 50 Cent filed for bankruptcy after a judge decided he must pay $5 million to Lastonia Leviston, who said he violated her privacy by posting a *** tape of her online. Fans created HELP50CENT via Tumblr. It plays his song “Piggy Bank” via Spotify and counts his earnings from the streaming to assist the rapper with some much-needed cash.
