Beyonce made a surprise appearance at Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year ceremony to present “selfless” Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award on Tuesday night.

The pop star showered Kaepernick with praise for his activism – the NFL champ famously took a knee during the National anthem before a 2016 preseason game while he was still signed to the San Francisco 49ers in protest to police brutality and racism in America.

“Thank you, Colin Kaepernick, thank you for your selfless heart and your conviction, thank you for your personal sacrifice,” Beyoncé said in a video shot from the audience. “Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion, only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception, to change the way we treat each other, especially people of color. We’re still waiting for the world to catch up.”

It’s worth mentioning Kaepernick left the 49ers in 2016 and has yet to be resigned. Per Rolling Stone, Kaepernick filed a grievance of collusion against the NFL’s owners. He claims the NFL has “blackballed” from the league because of his protest. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said at the time, Rolling Stone reports.

      1. You really think this dipshit, who’s only accomplishment in life is disrespecting the country that afforded him an easy ride through life, is some kind of hero? Muhammad Ali would be rolling in his grave.
