Bebe Rexha’s new album, Expectations, is available to stream.
Rexha paints herself as a lonely pop birdie trapped in a cage on much of Expectations, but disguises her melancholy mood with warm beats and shimmery production.
On “Sad,” Rexha wonders if she’s simply comfortable being sad. “Ferrari,” she compares herself to a “Ferrari pulled off on Mulholland Drive” because “living in the fast lane’s getting kind of lonely.” The singer also regrets to admit she’s got no “Self Control” on the Andrew Wells-produced track.
I’m feeling bummed.
All the June gloom worked. In its first day of being available, Expectations was certified Gold in the U.S. (500,000 in sales). I’m not entirely sure how that came to be, but we live in a world where numbers have importance, so… congrats!
