Womp… Avril Lavigne’s New Album Doesn’t Drop Until…

Avril Lavigne’s forthcoming album will arrive in early 2019.

UPDATE // OCTOBER 18:

The “Head Above Water” singer is Billboard’s newest cover star.

In her story, the music giant confirms Avril’s highly-anticipated (fight me) new record won’t drop until early next year.

I know we were all hoping for a Q4 release, but we’ve waited five years for a new album, what’s another few months?

UPDATE // OCTOBER 1:

New track titles from Avril Lavigne’s forthcoming album sound promising!

There are a handful of new Avril track titles floating around the net today, and they are quite attention-grabbing!

According to Music News Facts on Twitter, expect her new record to feature songs titled “I Fell In Love With The Devil,” “It Was In Me” and “Dumb Blonde,” among others.

I’m intrigued.

If you haven’t yet (shame on you), watch Avril’s new music video for “Head Above Water” here, then see the unconfirmed track titles below:

UPDATE // SEPTEMBER 18:

Avril Lavigne Shares The Cover Art For New Power Ballad, “Head Above Water”

Avril previewed a bit of her new song, “Head Above Water,” and shared the single cover art.

From what I can make of the 30-second teaser, the track is an ethereal-sounding ballad about the pop star’s rise from the ashes.

“I’ve gotta keep the calm before the storm,” she sings over a somber piano melody. “I don’t want less I don’t want more / Must bar the windows and the doors / To keep me safe to keep me warm.”

“Head Above Water” drops Sep. 19th.

All the emotions.

UPDATE // SEPTEMBER 6:

The rumors were true! Avril’s new song is indeed titled “Head Above Water.” It drops September 19th.

The singer hopped on social media to confirm the news. She also wrote fans a letter via her official website.

“I’m so excited to finally be able to announce the first single off my new album along with its release date,” she writes. “Five years have gone by since I released my last album. I spent the last few years at home sick fighting Lyme Disease. Those were the worst years of my life as I went through both physical and emotional battles. I was able to turn that fight into music I’m really proud of. I wrote songs in my bed and on the couch and recorded there mostly as well. Words and lyrics that were so true to my experience came pouring out of me effortlessly. Truly… by keeping my spirits up, having goals to reach and a purpose to live for, my music helped to heal me and keep me alive.”

“Thank you for waiting so patiently as I fought through and still continue to fight, the battle of my lifetime. The first song I am choosing to release is called “Head Above Water.” It is also the first song I wrote from my bed during one of the scariest moments of my life. I had accepted death and could feel my body shutting down. I felt like I was drowning. Like I was going under water and I just needed to come up for air. Like I was in a river being pulled in a current. Unable to breathe. Praying to God for Him to help me just keep my head above the water. To help me see through the stormy weather. I grew closer to Him. My mother held me. In her arms, I wrote the first song that I am releasing to tell my story. I later met a beautiful soul, Travis Clark, and we sat down at the piano and sculpted the rest of the song. Then I took it to the genius, Stephan Moccio and love what he did to the music.”

Read the entire letter here.

UPDATE // SEPTEMBER 3:

Word on the street says Avril Lavigne’s new single is titled “Head Above Water.” The song title was recently registered on music publishing website ASCAP.

Avril posted a new still, presumably from the song’s music video shoot, of her… underwater.

We don’t know for sure when “Head Above Water” drops, but rumor has it it’s out this month.

See what’s good below:

UPDATE // AUGUST 23:

UPDATE // AUGUST 20:

A Promise. Expect New Music From Avril Lavigne Come September.

I’m not going to speculate any more. Avril claims her new music drops this September, and I’ll just roll with that. It’s too exhausting to fight her.

Sure, she’s promised for an entire year that it’s ~coming soon,~ but I enjoy living in delusion.

Her ‘Teenage Dream’ Is Coming: Avril Lavigne Links Up In The Studio With Bonnie McKee

UPDATE // JUNE 26:

The last time we wrote about Avril’s new music, the headline read: “Avril Lavigne Says Her New Album Will Be Done In Two Weeks.” That was back in April, but it appears the singer is still working on it.

She posted a new photo with singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee. Bonnie is responsible for some seriously massive pop songs for Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and many more.

“Loved working with the super talented, smart, independent hawt blonde @bonniemckee on this record,” Avril wrote, adding: “Finishing touches.”

I’m not thrilled that it’s taking this long to get the record out, but Avril and Bonnie collaborating together is a dream team. I’ll wait.

UPDATE // APRIL 23:

Avril Lavigne is still putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming album.

Every two weeks or so, the singer claims the record is in the final mixing stages, but it appears she’s nervous to pull the trigger. Despite claiming months ago it was done (see below), Avril told People mag this weekend she’s two weeks out from finishing. At least she’s consistent!

“I’ve written a really powerful record, [a] really emotional album sort of reflecting where I am today,” she said. “I’m going to release that this year. I’m actually going to be done in two weeks.”

Come through, Avril!

UPDATE // APRIL 12:

Avril, sis, stop toying with us and release this. Check out her latest snaps below.

Months after the singer said her album was in the final mixing stages, Avril popped up to share a picture working on the project and said it’s in the homestretch.

UPDATE // FEBRUARY 25:

Avril tricked us! In the original story below, the singer confirmed her album was done and in the final mixing stages, but over the weekend, Av posted a black & white photo of her in the recording studio creating new music.

“Late night studio vocal session,” she said.

It appears Lavigne wasn’t completely satisfied with the project and is putting a few more finishing touches on it.

Hey, we’ve waited this long for a new album, what’s another mini-delay? Don’t answer that. See her new Tweet

and read the full story after that below:

EARLIER // FEBRUARY 7:

Avril has been hard at work on her new album for a while now. The “17” singer dealt with some serious health issues over the last couple of years from complications with Lyme disease, so it’s understandable she’s taking her time recording a followup to 2013’s self-titled, but it appears the new music is finally near.

Last month, Avril described the album in a few words: “Personal, dear, intimate, dramatic, raw, powerful, strong and unexpected,” she wrote. “This record is a true emotional journey.”

Today (Feb. 7), she elaborated the LP is near completion.

“I’m so f—ing pumped,” she began. “Waking up so excited. February is a great month. I’ve started mixing my album and all of the pieces are finally coming together. These songs are so close to my heart. Wish me luck while I throw every last drop of me into these final stages.”

Avril added: “Time is power. And I needed this time. To live. To write. To go through my ups and downs. And while I am eager to get this done ha I’ve finally learned to enjoy the journey, the ride, the present time.”

See the note below:

Come through, Avril! It’s been far too long.
