Avril Lavigne’s New Album ‘Head Above Water’ Surfaces: Stream

Stream Avril Lavigne’s new album, Head Above Water.

The singer’s sixth studio album arrives after major life changes. Avril battled complications from Lyme disease shortly after her 30th birthday and put her professional life on hold. The down time, the recovery and her resurgence are recurring themes on Head Above Water. Expect our review of the album in the coming days.

“This is me and my fight,” Avril explained. “One night, I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die.”

“My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water. In that moment, the songwriting of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”

She added, “like I was going under water and I just needed to come up for air. Like I was in a river being pulled in a current. Unable to breathe. Praying to God for Him to help me just keep my head above the water. To help me see through the stormy weather.”

Head Above Water also features the Ryan Cabrera co-written “Tell Me It’s Over,” and “Dumb Blonde,” featuring Nicki Minaj.
