Ariana Grande’s New ‘Sweetener’ Song “R.E.M.” Might Be A Recycled Beyonce Demo

It appears Ariana Grande’s Sweetener track “R.E.M.” was previously recorded by Beyonce.

Ari is Elle magazine’s latest cover girl. To promote the issue, she played a game called “Song Association.” They say a word, and she’s got 10 seconds to sing a line containing that word.

When Elle said the word “dream,” Ari sang a bit of her new song, “R.E.M.”

It goes, “Why you such a dream to me / Before you speak don’t walk / ‘Cause I don’t want to wake up.”

The song’s production is obviously missing, but the melody sounded VERY familiar to the BeyHive. That’s because Queen Bey previously recorded a song titled “Wake Up” with Pharrell. A 12-second snippet of Beyonce’s version has existed on YouTube since last year (I’m going to refrain from posting it in case the copyright police are on the hunt, but a quick search for “Beyonce + wake up” on YouTube should pull something up).

Since Beyonce never officially released it, Pharrell might’ve passed it onto Ari. He collaborated with her on several Sweetener songs.

The Internet is calling him lazy, I’m calling it efficient.

What should you take away from this post? Ariana recorded a Beyonce hand-me-down, and that’s OK.
