Ariana Grande is headlining weekend three of Coachella.

Earlier today, rumors swirled that Rihanna would replace Kanye West at Coachella. We reported about it and explained why that was a solid choice. No sense in revisiting that story now; it’s completely inaccurate (Rihanna headlining, not why she’d be a dope selection), because Coachella confirmed yes, Kanye is out, and Ariana is in.

Ariana’s Sweetener followup is reportedly finished, though we suspect she was very recently working with Pharrell in the recording studio. She also has new songs with Max Martin.

I think Ariana has one of THE voices of our generation, but her presence at Coachella, especially after Beychella, feels underwhelming. I’m curious to see how she’ll rock festival-goers considering many of her singles are mid-tempos.

Personally, 2018 was utter s–t for Ariana, but professionally she was on top. I might be unconvinced she’s the best choice right now, but I’m glad she’s maintaining momentum. It’s also a promising sign her new music is very near.

Side note: Props to BLACKPINK for securing a spot.
