Bet you didn’t wake up today and think you’d witness greatness like this, did ya? A street artist by the name of Plastic Jesus has immortalized Kanye West as a massive gold Jesus sculpture – a visual commentary inspired by the way in which the media and the general public treats Kanye.

“He’s a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him,” Plastic Jesus tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him.” The artist credits West’s outlandish behavior and statements, including the ones spouted during his recent breakdown and hospitalization . “We’ve seen it before with people like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. The same people who put him into a God-like place are the same yapping at his heels for a piece of flesh when something happens.”

Plastic Jesus teamed up with the artist behind the epic naked Donald Trump statues that appeared in Seattle, New York, San Francisco, Cleveland and L.A. in August.

He adds: “The piece is intended to be as critical of us as consumers and the media as it is of Kanye himself. We’ve created this idol from somebody who is clearly talented,” he says.
