In the pop music system, the singers are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the PR, who mold and protect careers; and the fans, who follow anything their idol does. These are their stories.
Zayn Malik is teaming up with famed television producer Dick Wolf (of Law & Order fame, hence the terrible headline above) for a drama series titled Boys on NBC that centers around the troubles a youngster may face embarking on the path to superstardom.
Dateline reports Boys “does mirror some of Malik’s real-life experiences. It follows the formation of a hugely successful boy band and captures all the excitement, competition and fun, but also provides an inside look into the pressure that follows.”
That’s something Zayn can intimately relate to. The former One Directioner has cancelled performances left and right due to “extreme anxiety,” most recently one scheduled for next month in Dubai.
“It’s exciting to be diving into this project with such passionate and prolific producers,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “Zayn certainly brings an authentic point of view to this world where kids are catapulted into fame at a dizzying speed. On top of our excitement around the creative ideas being discussed, we have a lot of respect for the musical and digital ambitions behind the project.”
A comfy seat behind-the-scenes is just what the doctor ordered. I assume the show won’t run passed season 1.
