We knew this was coming. Ed Sheeran and Beyonce's "Perfect Duet" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. The song sold 181,000 downloads, and because the duet version accounts for nearly two-thirds of the song's total sales for the week (63% to be exact), Beyoncé has been added on the Hot 100 as a co-lead artist, Billboard reports. The original solo version was released the week prior and accounts for the other third.
This marks Sheeran's second Hot 100 No. 1, the other being Divide lead single, "Shape of You." As for Beyoncé? The singer earns her sixth Hot 100 No. 1 as a soloist (in addition to four as a member of Destiny's Child) and her first in nine years, since 2008's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)."
Both Ed and Beyonce were parched for a new No. 1, so I'm happy for them. Because No. 1 songs are everything and nothing else in music matters besides chart position said no one ever.
