Taylor Swift's Super Saturday Night performance of "All Too Well" is unapologetically cathartic.
Swift said that her DirecTV Now Pre-Super Bowl show last month was her one and only performance of 2017. It's worth noting Ed Sheeran believes Swift is releasing an album later this year, which would obviously debunk that, but until then let's take her word for it. That brings us to her performance of "All Too Well" off 2012's Red, which makes its way online today.
For Swifties, the song is a standout track from the 1989 singer's lengthy catalogue. Co-written with longtime collaborator Liz Rose, the ballad is reportedly about her breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal. She previously said it was "the hardest to write on the album."
"It took me a really long time to filter through everything I wanted to put in the song without it being a 10-minute song, which you can’t put on an album," she said at the time. "I wanted a story that could work in the form of a song and I called my co-writer Liz Rose and said, ‘Come over, we’ve gotta filter this down,’ and it took me a really long time to get it."
Swift has even cried during past performances of it, but enough time has passed to numb the pain. Her latest rendition in Houston, TX, last month was triumphant. See you at the end of 2017, Swift! Watch:
