Vampire Weekend Is Listed As Writer On Beyoncé’s “Lemonade”

Beyoncé is Thiefoncé no more.

Vampire Weekend was listed as a writer on Beyoncé’s new album Lemonade for a lyric frontman Ezra Koenig Tweeted five years ago: “Hold up… they don’t love you like I love you.” It was famously used in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps” off their 2003 debut album Fever to Tell.

I know you’ve been replaying Lemonade today, so keep an eye out for it in “Hold Up.”

A day after the HBO special event aired, the singer-songwriter / guitarist responded to his own Tweet in 2011 by posting another line from the song: “Slow down… They don’t love you like I love you.”

The BeyHive wondered if Beyoncé listed Vampire Weekend as a writer because of the lyric, but Koenig admits “it’s deeper than that.”

That answer didn’t satisfy the BeyHive, so he explained further. In short, Koenig says he was in the studio with Diplo in 2014 which was inspired by the Tweet and “songs become tweets, tweets become songs – it’s the way of the world.”
