But will he take the right direction?
2016 could see new albums from major female forces like Britney Spears, Beyoncè and Rihanna. But it won't just feature releases from the ladies since Usher revealed he'll be on calendar lineup as well with his eighth studio album.
Confirmation of a new year release comes courtesy of his Friday (December 4) appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." It wasn't the only big reveal since the pop&B heavy hitter also spoke about his DL marriage to Grace Miguel, but that's a whole other story.
"Buffering. The clock is ticking. Any second now. Tick tick tick tick," he said when DeGeneres asked him what's the update on his new tunes. "It's coming definitely next year."
Earlier this year, Usher saw his head-bopping "I Don't Mind" receive a fair amount of success, but without an album or even a video attached to the single, he sort of made a wave and then charted off the scene. Well, he did announce UR, before
scrapping it pushing it back indefinitely.
While Ursh's overall package (vocals, choreography and even looks) has improved over the years, the quality of his tunes has taken a major hit, so it'll be interesting to see what direction he takes with the forthcoming project. For now, he joins a batch of mid-2000s acts like solo Gwen Stefani and Fergie who just can't seem to recreate the chart magic that once was. Still, despite the lack of mind-blowing success of this 2012 release, he definitely was on to something.
