‘Urban Myths’ Axes Michael Jackson Episode Following Backlash

UPDATE // JANUARY 14:

A day after Sky TV shared a preview of their episode featuring a Michael Jackson character played by white English actor, Joseph Fiennes, they announced the episode was axed. The backlash over choosing a caucasian man to play the king of pop, despite the surface-level skin tone comparisons, was revolting.

EARLIER // JANUARY 10:

True...ish stories.

No, this isn't a late night skit on Spike TV. This preview for an upcoming show called Urban Myths on Sky Arts TV is actually a thing.

This clip shows English actor Joseph Fiennes playing Michael Jackson riding shotgun on a road trip with Elizabeth Taylor, who's played by Stockard Channing, post 9/11.

Fiennes caught flack for playing Jackson because of the obvious, but he defended his role, telling ET Jackson “definitely had an issue, a pigmentation issue, and that’s something I do believe. He was probably closer to my color than his original color,” adding there was nothing malicious about the performance.
