Aretha Franklin's self-indulging rendition of the National Anthem was worth every second.Franklin is a global icon, but extra special to her hometown of Detroit where the sound of Motown was born. The Queen of Soul performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings game at Ford Field on Thanksgiving Day, and while it admittedly gorgeous, she stretched it out to nearly five minutes. Franklin hung onto every note of the song (for instance, she sang the word "flag" for 12 seconds). Watch:
Shocked that people are criticizing Aretha Franklin's rendition of the National Anthem. I thought it was gorgeous. https://t.co/W2Njby5oqJ— Charles T. Downey (@ionarts) November 24, 2016
