It appears Tony Bennett will make an appearance at the Super Bowl, but not in the way it was suggested!
According to a new report from Yahoo, Mr. Bennet will be featured in a commercial for Pepsi leading into Gaga's halftime show performance, not literally there in person.
In the 10 seconds before the Pepsi Zero Sugar Super Bowl LI Halftime Show, the brand will countdown to Lady Gaga's epic performance with an unforgettable lead-in featuring legendary singer Tony Bennett. PepsiCo's Creators League Studio produced the lead-in.
A commercial sounds much more likely than onstage cameo from the iconic singer.
Here is a behind-the-scenes photo of Mr. Bennett filming the spot, which originally appeared on Ad Age. That site still claims "Tony Bennett will perform for PepsiCo at halftime."
Jazz is about to infiltrate the Super Bowl!
Previous reports suggested Lady Gaga would not feature any guests during her Super Bowl halftime show at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, next month (Feb. 5), but according to Ad Age, Gaga is enlisting her Cheek To Cheek co-star Tony Bennett for the opening number.
The site goes into detail about PepsiCo's plans to air a 30-second commercial for its new Lifewtr premium bottled water brand, then drops the bomb:
As previously announced, PepsiCo is using its halftime show sponsorship to plug its Pepsi Zero Sugar variety. Lady Gaga is the main attraction, with Tony Bennett taking the stage first as her lead-in.
Lady Gaga Reportedly Releasing New Album In October
Gaga fooled her Little Monsters into thinking it was a solo performance when she shared a snap on Instagram and said the people joining her on stage will "be only family."
But Mr. Bennett is definitely family!
This also aligns with a recent story from ET, who claimed Gaga has indeed secured a special guest. "She is having a guest join her during a song," they said. However, they added "two artists said no when they were asked to join her." Their source didn't specify what artist(s) denied the opportunity to perform at one of the most-watched televised events of the year.
