Thirsty? Have a tall glass of Tinashe, on the rocks.
While she put the finishing touches to her upcoming album, Tinashe invited Complex magazine to her family home - where she records - and then became a personified glass of Sex on the Beach for her sizzling cover shoot.
She remained coy about the new material, casually name-dropping Max Martin as a collaborator, but had returned to her teenage bedroom to continue recording. If you don't know, Tinashe wrote, produced and recorded four mixtapes and part of her debut album here.
“It’s a place for my solitude,” she says. “I’m very comfortable here. I can be pure inspiration here, and not be affected by any other factor, whether that’s a producer or anyone else’s opinion. It also makes me feel like I’m the same person I was before I had any level of success, which was when I was the most inspired creatively."
This could be a sign that she's not clicked with many of the A-list producers she's hit the studio with, but only time will tell. Tinashe has worked with a whole bunch of people, from Diplo and Max Martin to Boi-1da and DJ Mustard.
"I have no Plan B. I've set this up so that my entire life is based on this, and if it fails, I have nothing else."
Complex's Feb/March issue is available now.
