Tinashe stopped by Conan last night with a rendition of her new single, "All Hands on Deck", and proved once and for all that she's the most promising live performer in the industry.
Tinashe is having an emphatically good 2015 so far. After jumping over the drama surrounding Iggy Azalea's postponed tour (and landing on her feet with a opening role on The PinkPrint Tour) Tinashe has released a series of exceptional visuals and with her first televised performance of "All Hands on Deck" delivered one of the best chat-show performances we've seen in a long time.
Tinashe has an engaging and confident stage presence and when coupled with her absolutely killer dance moves, she's easily one of the most compelling urban acts to hit the scene in recent memory. What's perhaps most surprising is that she combines fairly complex choreography with oustandingly strong vocals and, refreshingly, finds herself supported by backing singers rather than pre-recorded playback of her own voice.
Of course it doesn't hurt that "All Hands on Deck" is objectively Tinashe's strongest singular effort so far. The track utilises an icy electro/R&B soundscape and a catchy, infectious hook, both of which hold up well in a live setting. "All Hands on Deck" really should be Tinashe's breakout chart success, and with more performances the calibre of which she offered last night that's sure to be the case.
I think what's so impressive about Tinashe is just how right she seems to get it every time and the young singer-songwriter carries herself in such a way that you'd never believe this was the 22 year old's debut album and third single. If this is the level upon which Tinashe is starting, I can't be the only one who's excited to see where she ends up.
