If The Weeknd's collabo with Lana Del Rey felt like a match made in heaven, that's because it sort of was, at least according to the R&B crooner. In a just-released interview with Pitchfork, pop's man of the hour opened up about why he feels his LDR team-up ("Prisoner") is "the most natural" collaboration on his brand-new LP, Beauty Behind The Madness.
After boasting about his "long time" friendship with the pop darling, The Weeknd shared some rather surprising sentiments about LDR, saying, "I’ve inspired her, she’s inspired me. I feel like we’ve always been talking to each other through our music. She is the girl in my music, and I am the guy in her music."
We must have missed that particular memo, but we're still glad to see the two come together for the cut. "It’s just this ghostly collaboration that feels the most natural on the whole album," he said of the track.
And while his LDR duet might been his most easy-going team-up on the project, his Kanye West-produced "Tell Your Friends" helped him showcase the subconscious transition that he's gone through since his beginnings as an R&B virtuoso.
"There's so much detail in his sessions, and he definitely helped craft who I’ve been, subconsciously, for the past few years," he explained. "To actually be with him and talk to him and work with him, it’s just like coming to life."
