The Weeknd Breaks Spotify’s Single Day Streaming Record

The Weeknd is the new king of Spotify.

Tesfaye just dropped his career-defining new album Starboy, which boasts collaborations from Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar and Cashmere Cat, and it’s cohesive sound aimed at appealing to the masses paid off. Big time.

Spotify is reporting as of Nov. 26, the “I Feel It Coming” singer now has the most streams on the platform in one day.

The company hasn’t divulged the exact number yet, but to put things into perspective, Justin Bieber set the record nearly a year ago with 36 million single-day streams.

Top industry execs chime in.

Monte Lipman, Chairman & Co-Founder of Republic Records tells HypeBot: “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming.”
