The latest chapter in Taylor Swift's Reputation era has arrived.
Swift surprised fans today (Oct. 19) when she seemingly out of nowhere announced plans to release a new song. It's titled "Gorgeous," the third taste from the singer's forthcoming album, Reputation, out Nov. 10. It's all part of Tay's elaborate plan to keep the focus on the new tunes. All of her Instagram posts disabled the comments section and she's reportedly not giving any interviews this era. One of her posts said "There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation." And here we are: "Gorgeous."
On "Gorgeous," Taylor is hypnotized by a guy's physical beauty.
"You're so gorgeous I can't say anything to your face," Swift sings over plunky synths. "Cause look at your face. You should take it as a compliment that I'm talking to everyone here but you / You should think about the consequence of you touching my hand in the darkened room / If you got a girlfriend I'm jealous of her / But if you're single that's honestly worse cause you're so gorgeous it actually hurts."
"Gorgeous" is my least favorite of the three thus far. Something about Taylor drooling over how pretty a guy's face is just doesn't feel authentic. Especially when "Look What You Made Me Do" and "Ready For It?" are so aggressive; this just doesn't fit. As a buzz track? I'm here for it.
