Plus, he places his bets on a successful solo career for Harry Styles.
It's been months since One Direction announced their lengthy hiatus, (and only hours until the release of ZAYN's debut solo album, Mind Of Mine) and folks still can't stop talking about the pop super-group that once was. Take Simon Cowell, for example.
Speaking with Billboard, the "American Idol" honcho shared the latest update on the foursome, and even though he doesn't know much, it sort of shows just how disconnected he is with his once close-knit group.
"I know if it's a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don't want to know. I don't think they've had enough time to experience what it's like not being in the group to really answer that."
Nonetheless, Cowell, who will likely appear on the forthcoming series finale of "American Idol," confessed that the decision is ultimately in their hands and he has confidence that they'll make an appropriate choice. "They had achieved so much in a short period of time, and I didn't want them to get jaded. As I've gotten older, I've learned to trust people more, particularly artists. They’ll decide when they want to come back together," he explained.
The industry heavyweight also offered his two cents on a future solo record from Harry Styles, saying, "He'll work out what kind of record he wants to make because he's got great taste — which is always a help. All the writers and producers want to work with him, understandably, but he probably
won’t rush into it."
