Shakira is putting in work on a new album, which features a collab with Iggy Azalea because of course.
Let’s be real for a minute: 2014 was not a good year for the more established acts in the industry. Between the extreme floppage of Gwen Stefani and the less than stellar performance of Fergie’s comeback track “L.A. LOVE (La La),” no one was safe in an industry which increasingly centered around disposable acts – least of all she of truthful hips, Shakira.
Despite a high-profile track with notoriously collaboration-shy, phuck-free Queen Rih, her most recent studio effort whimpered out fairly early on last year. It should be no surprise to anyone Shakira’s planning a more worldwide comeback this year with her eleventh (I was surprised too, I guess those Spanish LPs really add up) studio album.
Speculation is rife as to who’ll be featuring on the reportedly bilingual album, and Spanish newspapers report that aside from Mexican rock band Maná and Grammy-award winning Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz, our very own She Wolf will team up with Iggy Azalea, much like literally every other person in the music industry.
Whether this is a good or bad thing only time will tell. Shakira’s last collaboration with Rihanna seemed sure to succeed, and whilst not being a total disaster managed to make only a modest impact on the charts. With this in mind it might make sense to go for someone very un-Shakira, especially considering her stellar history of linking up with seemingly random rappers.
Either way those hoping that 2014 would see the end of I-G-G-Y are emphatically out of luck – as well as appearing on Britney’s comeback single, rumour has it she’ll be featuring on Selena Gomez’ forthcoming record.
