Selena Gomez’s Rejuvenating Advice: Drink Water, Stretch, Breathe And Lose The Smart Phone

Selena Gomez learned a thing or two during her time away from the spotlight, and she’s letting us in.

Gomez made a triumphant return to the forefront at the American Music Awards last month with an empowering acceptance speech. “I had to stop, because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” she said. “I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”

The Revival singer is detailing a few of the coping skills she practiced over the last three months at her stay in a rehab facility, which she dubs as taking “90 days off.”

Speaking with Thrive Global, Gomez says the first thing she does to start the day is “drink water, stretch, and take a deep breath.”

To keep her energy up, the pop star says: “staying healthy (mentally, physically, emotionally) and learning new things” is key, as well as “self-affirmations in cooking or napping!”

Oh, and lose the smart phone.

“I recently took 90 days off. During that time I did not have my cellphone,” she said. “It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.”

They also point-blank asked the last time she felt burnt out.

“Three months ago, before I took a hiatus to take care of myself.”

And her words of wisdom? “You are not what happened to you, you are what you chose to become after what happened to you.”
