Well, this is extremely disappointing. All signs pointed to Selena Gomez releasing a Revival followup soon. The pop star recorded a song with Gucci Mane (he confirmed it was for her upcoming record, not his), reunited with "Good For You" songwriters Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter and even hopped on a new song with Kygo this year.
Unfortunately, the momentum came to a screeching halt when Gomez explained to Today’s Sheinelle Jones that she's putting a pause on making music to focus on other things that are important to her, Billboard reports.
“I’m taking time to have a personal life,” she said. “I’m doing things that I love that I’m passionate about that I care about… it just makes me happy.”
Gomez made the revelation at her surprise appearance at a Los Angeles high school on Friday as part of her collaboration with the Step Up Foundation and Coach for World Kindness Day.
In her new interview with Vogue, Gomez shared her mixed-feelings about the Revival Tour.
"I was so used to performing for kids. At concerts I used to make the entire crowd raise up their pinkies and make a pinky promise never to allow anybody to make them feel that they weren’t good enough. Suddenly I have kids smoking and drinking at my shows, people in their 20s, 30s, and I’m looking into their eyes, and I don’t know what to say. I couldn’t say, ‘Everybody, let’s pinky-promise that you’re beautiful!’ It doesn’t work that way, and I know it because I’m dealing with the same shit they’re dealing with.”
Guess we'll have to give this a few more plays...
