Rihanna’s eighth studio album ANTi is No. 1 this week, but early estimates predict a significant drop in the week to follow.
We’re not entirely sure how to assess Rihanna’s success with ANTi. Ideally, we’d focus our attention towards whether the album is sonically cohesive and call it a day, but we live in an age of numbers and records… so let’s analyze how Rihanna’s done thus far, shall we?
After a controversial opening week, Rihanna managed to debut at No. 27 on the Billboard 200 chart. Because of the short window her album dropped in, she only sold 460 pure album sales (excludes streaming) and a million free downloads which resulted in a Platinum certification from the RIAA.
We’ll let that sink in.
This week, Rihanna launched to No. 1, moving 124,000 pure album sales or 166,000 that includes streaming. However, the hype quickly died down as Hits Daily Double reports she should amass around 40-45K albums (or 65-70K streaming plus sales) in its third charting week.
Rihanna filmed new scenes for the “Work” music video at Real Jerk in Toronto last week. From what we gather, it’s a wildin’ out dance party vibe, exactly what we expected for the accompanying visual. In other words… le sigh.
