Rihanna announces lead role win for Bates Motel.
Following on from the news of her role as an alien stripper in Valerian, Rihanna announced at Comic-Con that she has also scored the iconic role of Marion Crane in the TV adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's classic horror film Psycho - Bates Motel.
The 28-year-old landed the role after the creators heard she was an avid watcher of the prequel series:
"We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate"
For those who live under a rock (and don't mind being spoiled 56 years after release), Ri will play Marion Crane, the film's shady protagonist until roughly the halfway point, when the, well, psycho brutally murders her as she showers. The death scene is one of cinema's most iconic and groundbreaking, as film deaths had previously never been so graphic nor so meticulously constructed before - the 3 minute scene features 77 camera angles and 50 cuts:
The scene has it's own Wikipedia page section, so needless to say the Bates Motel creators and Rihanna herself have big shoes to fill.
