She returned after an emotional intro from Naomi Campbell, with a mash-up of hits like "Rude Boy" and "Work". Sporting a more casual look and backed by an army of dancers, Rih's vocals remained strong:
For her third turn, a mullet-ed Rihanna took on "Pour it Up", "Bitch Better Have My Money" and "Pour it Up" with a pretty spooky backdrop:
Mary J Blige gave a touching intro before Rihanna launched into a compilation of her balladry for her fourth act. Kicking off with "Stay" and moving into "Diamonds", Rih left us in no doubt as to how much her voice has improved since she burst onto the scene in 2005. Finishing off with the still incredible "Love on the Brain", the whole performance was a touching and fitting way to end her Vanguard evening. All things considered, Rihanna did herself proud.
After an emotional speech in which Drake declared his love for her (literally, he said: "She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old."), Rihanna accepted the award with humility, grace and style.
