EARLIER // JULY 28:
Kenny Chesney and Pink are preparing to blaze the country music charts with “Setting The World On Fire.”
Pink trailed off the pop music path in recent years when she and Dallas Green formed a band named You+Me and put forth a folk record together. She said it was one of the most fulfilling experiences in her career to date, and despite dipping her toe into the pop pool once more with “Just Like Fire,” her contribution for Alice Through The Looking Glass movie, it appears Pink hasn’t had enough heat. This time, she’s venturing into the world of country with help from one of the greats: Kenny Chesney.
In their laid-back new duet titled “Setting The World On Fire,” the pair trade lyrics about a hot night together, but wonder whether things may have gone too far… but there’s no time for regret.
“Up all night and we were feelin’ so good / Yeah, we got a little higher than we probably should / We were in a hotel singin’ in the hallway lights / We were strikin’ the matches right down to the ashes / Setting the world on fire / Setting the world on fire.”
“You can’t conjure a song that captures that feeling of being on the brink like this does,” Chesney says in a press release. “The lyrics are a perfect way of saying it, but when you feel that melody rise, the arrangement picking up momentum — it’s bigger than you are, and all you want to do is throw yourself against the night. Then when Pink comes in, well, that just brings this to life.”
You wouldn’t expect a song from Kenny Chesney and Pink, but the duo harmonize their voices together like they’d been singing together for years. Looks like we got a new country No. 1 on our hands!
