Pharrell Debuts New "Locked Away" Tune

Only Pharrell had the key.

N.E.R.D.’s (not so) new song “Locked Away” leaked in low quality several years ago, but the “Happy” singer premiered the studio version on Beats1 Radio show on Sunday (Aug. 16). The song features a funky low-key background and breathy hoh-hahs while Pharrell croons about spending time with someone inherently cool.

When you were in my arms
Though inside, I could see the stars
As if they were not far
I read what they were saying

Pharrell has another old school song he’s premiering this year – his 2007 collaboration with Gwen Stefani on their song titled “Carousel.” We’re not thrilled with the idea that Pharrell is sharing music recorded years ago, but if a song is timeless than does it matter? If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around does it make a noise? No, no it doesn’t.
