Pentatonix’s Kirstin Maldonado Goes Solo On “Break A Little”: Watch The Video

Kirstin Maldonado stands on her own two feet in "Break A Little."

It’s an interesting time for a cappella group Pentatonix. Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi broke away to release new music under the name SUPERFRUIT and Avi Kaplan announced he was leaving the band because the pressures of stardom became overbearing.

Kirstin Maldonado is the next to step out for a moment. She released a brooding new single today (May 19) titled “Break A Little,” a roaring tune with a larger than life chorus and infectious hooks. But don’t let that fool you, the lyrics convey something quite melancholy.

“I’m so proud of ‘Break a Little,'” Maldonado said in a statement. “I always wanted to write a sad song that sounds happy. I think everyone can relate to this emotion. It’s about longing for something. You’re attracted to a vice or person you know you shouldn’t come back to, but you can’t help it.”

It also has a thunderous music video that finds Maldonado singing in the rain. Watch and listen below:
