It might be the worst kept secret in music, or the biggest hoax.
It seems fitting, considering the guys dropped their recent single, "Drag Me Down," without notice. The tactic proved so successful, they smashed Spotify's record for most streams in one day coming in at 4.75 million and was the first track ever to hit No. 1 on the the Spotify Global Chart on its first day of release.
After Siri spilled the beans, One Directioners took it upon themselves to do a little investigative work - they began calling Walmart and Target stores to get the lowdown as to when we could expect an album, and several stores did confirm they have it in stock for Friday.
News broke last month the guys have plans to disband in spring next year and won't tour their new album, though it appears they might have the opportunity to seeing as it's slated to drop tomorrow (Sep. 11).
An insider told The Sun previously, “Simon Cowell and his team at Syco couldn’t be more excited about the album. They believe there are at least three smash hit songs and they’ve got the boys to stay together for a few weeks beyond the end of the year to make the album a huge success. But there was a meeting recently where it was agreed there would be no tour for the album. That was a big call because it means come March, Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall will be free agents for the first time in five years.”
Only time will tell, but we won't have to wait long.
