“You and me got a whole lotta history.”

One Direction have dropped the video for their final ‘Made in the A.M.’ single, “History” entirely unannounced.

The clip is an emotional journey down memory lane, focusing on the highlights from the guys’ meteoric rise to fame over the last five and a half years. Featuring concert stops, recording sessions, thousands of fans and plenty of goofing around, it feels like a pretty consummate summary of the four British lads’ journey so far.

A cute, if not slightly predictable effort, he timing of the clip is also convenient in terms of racking up views.

The boys took a hiatus at the end of last year, but haven’t done a fantastic job of keeping out of the headlines. Between supposed womanizer Harry Styles’ romantic entanglements and Liam Payne’s leap into songwriting, the guys aren’t far from the headlines this week. Louis Tomlinson’s babymama drama will also wrack up the hits, with reports today that the reported mother of his child Briana Jungwirth will be asking for $50,000 a month from the superstar in child support.

Similarly, Zayn Malik’s video for his debut single, “Pillow Talk”, is set to drop this Friday.

What do you think? Coincidence or crude business move?
