A new TV series about Nicki Minaj's upbringing in Queens, New York will begin filming this winter.
The untitled series is getting a script from Kate Angelo (Sex Tape) with Minaj overseeing the entire project as one of the show's executive producers and will give fans an intimate look at how she grew up "with her vibrant immigrant family and the personal and musical evolution that lead to her eventual rise to stardom."
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke. says “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” adding “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Minaj has some experience on the big screen, including one of the voices on Ice Age: Continental Drift, last year’s The Other Woman and a recent role in Barbershop 3. This will mark the first small-screen endeavor for The Pinkprint rapper.
