Joshua Michael Robinson asks that you call him JMR but it’s not much to ask for in return of the sheer magic that is his new single “Bound.”
“Bound” is an absolutely excellent song: a soulful, guitar-and-wobbly-synth led R&B track, filled with harmonies and hooks.
There’s something very Miguel about the track, particularly the fantastic middle eight, but it manages to seem very fresh - especially when pinned against the cut-and-paste bops delivered by Kid Ink and co. these days.
“I’m gonna find a way to dance / Even if they tie my feet” is an excellent lyric, also.
The Nashville-based singer has the vocals, the soul, and he also produced the song by himself. Talent? Hello!
“Bound” is taken from his upcoming “Boyish” EP - out May 26 - which will feature collaborations with Salaam Remi, who famously produced Amy Winehouse’s two albums.
You know, I could hear “Bound" playing on “Big Little Lies”, which you should all know is a major compliment because you should all have watched that flawless show and be aware of its equally flawless soundtrack. That’s all. Just listen and enjoy.
